Ephraim Goldin

Ephraim Goldin is one of the founders of TIDI TADE, the first African drum and dance ensemble established in the Czech Republic. He has been a teacher and performer of African Djembe music since 1997 and was a member of DUNUMBA, the first African drum group in the Czech Republic which was founded by Tomas and Jan Pavlacky. He has studied with various teachers and musicians from Western Africa and has first hand experience playing accompaniment djembe with the Gambian troupe FATALA with whom he apprenticed.

Ephraim is one of the hosts of the weekly "Night of the Drum" jam sessions at Meli-Melo. Drummers of all levels are encouraged to participate in these sessions since they are about gaining experience, meeting other drummers, sharing the passion we all love and of course, about having fun together.

For a more controlled and guided environment, Ephraim will be giving periodical workshops in drumming. In these session participants will be encouraged to explore and develop their technique and sound as well as receiving useful tips on how to attain fluidity of movement and balanced left/right hand playing. And of course there will be instruction in traditional West African rhythms. But drummers attending these courses can also expect Ephraim to introduce some rhythms of his own composition to show the creative possibilities in the art of Djembe and its place in the world of rhythm.

Workshops will take place at Meli-Melo. Courses will usually be held on Saturday and Sunday of a chosen weekend and will be anywhere from four to six hours in length. Drums are available to those who do not have them, but will be handed out on a first come first serve basis. There will be an additional fee for the use of the drum. Tape or mini-disk recorders are permitted.

Course: April 14th -15th and 28th - 29th
Time: 11:00 - 15:00.
Fee: 1000 Kc for both days, 600 Kc for one day. 100 Kc will be added for use of a djembe (where applicable)
Drum night: April 13th and 27th.
Time: 20:00 - 00:00.
We are looking forward to seeing you at Meli-Melo and better yet, to drumming with you!
